The asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a carefully and elaborately cultivated vegetable that finds its way into markets and grocery stores at the earliest in March. Because of its labor-intensive culture, asparagus is not one of the cheapest types of vegetables. Its numerous health benefits, however, more than make up for the price.
